Sejarah Kecamatan Dungingi
Menurut sejarah, Jazirah Gorontalo terbentuk kurang lebih 400 tahun lalu dan merupakan salah satu kota tua di Sulawesi selain Kota Makassar, Pare-pare dan Manado. Gorontalo pada saat itu menjadi salah satu pusat penyebaran agama Islam di Indonesia Timur yaitu dari Ternate, Gorontalo, Bone. Seiring dengan penyebaran agama tersebut Gorontalo menjadi pusat pendidikan dan perdagangan masyarakat di wilayah sekitar seperti Bolaang Mongondow (Sulut), Buol Toli-Toli, Luwuk Banggai, Donggala (Sulteng) bahkan sampai ke Sulawesi Tenggara.Gorontalo menjadi pusat pendidikan dan perdagangan karena letaknya yang strategis menghadap Teluk Tomini (bagian selatan) dan Laut Sulawesi (bagian utara).
Kedudukan Kota Kerajaan Gorontalo mulanya berada di Kelurahan Hulawa Kecamatan Telaga sekarang, tepatnya di pinggiran sungai Bolango. Menurut Penelitian, pada tahun 1024 H, kota Kerajaan ini dipindahkan dari Keluruhan Hulawa ke Dungingi Kelurahan Tuladenggi Kecamatan Dungingi sekarang. Kemudian dimasa Pemerintahan Sultan Botutihe kota Kerajaan ini dipindahkan dari Dungingi di pinggiran sungai Bolango, ke satu lokasi yang terletak antara dua kelurahan yaitu Kelurahan Biawao dan Kelurahan Limba B.
Pada masa pemerintahan Bapak Medi Botutihe selaku Walikota Gorontalo pada tahun 1997 yang merupakan juga keturunan dari Raja Botutihe serta dengan pertimbangan memperpendek rentang kendali guna mendekatkan pelayanan kepada masyarakat dan juga karena merasa terpanggil untuk menghidupkan kembali sejarah gorontalo terutama agar Dungingi ibu kota gorontalo yang lama tidak terlupakan. Maka pada tahun 2003 dibentuklah Kecamatan Dungingi yang sebelumnya termasuk dalam wilayah Kecamatan Kota Barat yang terdiri dari 11 Kelurahan. Setelah terjadinya pemekaran sampai saat ini Kecamatan Dungingi terdiri dari 5 Kelurahan, yakni :
Kelurahan Huangobotu
Kelurahan Libuo
Kelurahan Tuladenggi
Kelurahan Tomulabutao
Kelurahan Tomulabutao Selatan.
Kecamatan Dungingi terletak diantara 1° Lintang Utara dan 123° Bujur Timur. Luas Dungingi adalah 4.10 Km2; yang didominasi oleh dataran. Daerah yang berbatasan langsung dengan kabupaten gorontalo ini dilalui oleh sungai bolango dengan panjang 3,3 Km.
